The British Columbia Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) published its first pay transparency report under the Pay Transparency Act, disclosing its organization-wide gender pay gap and stating that men and male-presenting people and women and female-presenting people are paid equally when performing the same roles. Based on 2024 calendar-year data, the report shows a 14.44% mean pay gap and a 19.05% median pay gap, meaning women earn 81 cents for every dollar earned by men. BCFSA attributes the gaps to the underrepresentation of women in senior leadership and overrepresentation in lower-level roles, noting that its four highest-paid team members during the period were men, which influenced the overall figures. The release also notes the government mandate applies to employers with over 300 employees and will extend to employers with over 50 employees starting in 2026. BCFSA indicates it will continue to examine drivers of representation gaps and take action through leadership development, inclusive hiring, and succession planning, with expected improvements to be reflected in future reporting.
