The Kuwait Capital Markets Authority (CMA) reported that it received the United Nations Human Rights Council independent expert on economic reform and external debt policies, Attia Waris, during her official visit to Kuwait, and briefed her on the CMA’s role in regulating and supervising capital markets activities. Discussion covered supervision of securities activities and brokers, investor protection, financial market development, processing merger and acquisition applications and power of attorney requests, and measures to address expected or unforeseen market disruptions. The CMA also outlined its approach to financial transparency and public communications, noting that press releases are limited to what is permitted under applicable laws and regulations and are framed within its statutory competencies such as licensing and market entry. Waris is scheduled to meet other government bodies and relevant civil society institutions, and will conclude the visit with a comprehensive report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva for its March 2026 session.
