The Central Bank of Chile has opened its Sixth Statistics Conference, “The power of data for an intelligent world”, held in Santiago on 3–4 June 2025 as part of the central bank’s centenary programme. The two-day event focuses on how official statistics and new technologies can support decision-making and how central banks can communicate data more effectively. Opening remarks were delivered by Central Bank of Chile President Rosanna Costa, with a keynote address from Bert Kroese, Head of Statistics and Chief Data Officer at the International Monetary Fund. The conference brings together participants from institutions including the European Central Bank, the US Federal Reserve, the Bank of Canada, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Bank for International Settlements. Costa highlighted milestones in the central bank’s statistical production and publication, pointing to initiatives to improve accessibility such as the Statistical Database launched in 2004 and a simplified mobile version. Sessions will cover the role of statistics in decision-making, the use of artificial intelligence and innovation to produce relevant and reliable statistics, and new communication strategies aimed at making information more accessible to the public. The conference continues through 4 June 2025, with sessions broadcast live via the Central Bank of Chile’s YouTube channel.
