The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan issued a consumer reminder on how to reduce the risk of fraudulent borrowing in a person’s name. The agency urged individuals to activate the Stop Credit service through the eGov portal, the eGov mobile app or a credit bureau, describing it as a way to monitor the possibility of credit being taken out in their name. It also reiterated basic security measures when arranging or managing credit. These include keeping personal codes and passwords confidential, never sharing SMS codes, PIN codes, one-time passwords or Secure codes even with callers claiming to represent banks, security services or state bodies, refusing requests to install remote-access software on a phone or computer, avoiding suspicious links sent by SMS, messaging apps or advertisements, using two-factor authentication for online banking and other services, and regularly checking credit reports with credit bureaus to identify unauthorized loans in time.
