The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has opened a consultation following a decision in principle to introduce a prudential levy for banks, non-bank deposit takers, insurers and financial market infrastructures. The proposal would recover all prudential regulatory costs from the financial industry. The consultation covers the levy’s sectoral scope and the method for determining the amount payable by each regulated entity. Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Oct. 16, with final Cabinet decisions expected in early 2027.
