The Hong Kong Monetary Authority issued a public alert covering bank press releases on fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other scams reported to the authority. It directed the public to links on its website and reiterated that banks do not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions. Banks also do not ask customers for sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including through embedded hyperlinks. Anyone who provided personal information or conducted financial transactions in response to the scams should contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force's Crime Wing Information Centre.
