The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) reported that its Secretary-General led a field visit to Krabi to oversee public service points during the Songkran travel period and to support integrated road and marine accident prevention operations across the 10–16 April 2026 “seven dangerous days”. The visit focused on ensuring the public and tourists can access insurance protection and guidance promptly amid higher traffic volumes. The delegation visited checkpoints and public service points operating with Krabi’s road and marine accident prevention and reduction operations centre, alongside agencies including the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, police and insurance-sector representatives. A subsequent meeting at the OIC Krabi office reviewed performance from OIC Region 8 (Surat Thani) and the Krabi office, and set local policyholder-protection priorities including improving access to insurance benefits, raising service quality and reinforcing confidence in the insurance system; the policy briefing was also streamed online to provincial offices under Region 8. The OIC reiterated the government’s objective to reduce accidents, injuries and fatalities by at least 5% versus the prior year, noting that annual Songkran accidents average no fewer than 2,000 nationwide, and emphasised public awareness of compulsory motor insurance and additional voluntary cover.
