Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Funds (SBS) ordered the closure of the premises used by the entity calling itself “Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito La Troyca” (COOPAC La Troyca) after finding it was operating in Huamachuco (La Libertad) and Bagua Grande (Amazonas) without SBS authorisation. Under SBS Resolution No. 03037-2025, the entity was found to be promoting and carrying out the collection of funds from its members and the general public in breach of Law 26702, which requires these entities to be registered in the SBS-managed Registro Coopac. It allegedly used the “Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito” or “Coopac” denomination to attract funds by offering products including fixed-term savings and promising an interest rate of 15%, operating from premises at Jirón José Olaya No. 438 in Huamachuco and Calle Simón Bolívar No. 432 in Bagua Grande. After it continued operating despite SBS demands to its board chair and general manager to cease the activity, the SBS also filed a criminal complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office for collecting money from the public and for disobedience and resistance to authority. The SBS said it will continue to act against informal financial activity and urged the public to take precautions when deciding where to save or invest.
