The Central Bank of Luxembourg published provisional balance sheet statistics showing the aggregate balance sheet total of Luxembourg credit institutions declined to EUR 967.803bn at 31 May 2025 from EUR 984.270bn a month earlier, a 1.67% decrease. The fall was mainly driven on the asset side by lower claims on other banks and deposit-taking institutions and, on the liability side, by lower debts to other sectors, while the balance sheet total was up 0.77% year on year. The interbank balance, defined as the difference between interbank claims and liabilities, fell by EUR 13.363bn (5.34%) to EUR 236.709bn at end-May 2025. Loans to non-bank customers decreased by EUR 0.779bn (0.68%) month on month but increased by EUR 2.330bn (2.08%) over twelve months, with year-on-year lending down to non-financial corporations by EUR 5.020bn (18.56%), up in household mortgage lending by EUR 0.883bn (2.16%), and up to other financial intermediaries by EUR 6.894bn (18.99%). On the liability side, resident non-bank deposits contracted by EUR 3.766bn (1.21%) between April and May but rose by EUR 24.581bn (8.68%) over twelve months, including a EUR 19.407bn (10.32%) increase in deposits from other financial intermediaries, which accounted for 67% of the total at 31 May 2025.

The interbank balance decreased by EUR 13.363bn (5.34%), while loans to non-bank customers fell by EUR 0.779bn (0.68%) month on month but rose by EUR 2.330bn (2.08%) year on year. Resident non-bank deposits contracted by EUR 3.766bn (1.21%) from April to May but increased by EUR 24.581bn (8.68%) over the year, with significant growth in deposits from other financial intermediaries.
