The Bank of Cape Verde reported that Governor Óscar Santos and Board Member Antónia Lopes participated in the 95th annual meeting of the Bank for International Settlements, held in Basel on 28–29 June 2025. The related workshop focused on emerging markets and developing economies, with discussions centred on bridging gaps in financial inclusion, regional integration and cross-border payments. The workshop was structured around two sessions on public-private partnerships for payments and on strengthening regional ties to improve cross-border payments globally. Discussions covered how regional integration can improve cross-border payments, the links between financial inclusion and cross-border payments, and practical experience from ongoing public and private sector initiatives. The Bank of Cape Verde highlighted the role of national and regional payment infrastructures in making cross-border payments simpler, more affordable and more efficient, including by interlinking payment systems to expand access for individuals and businesses, particularly underserved or unbanked communities, and by improving remittance outcomes through lower transaction costs, greater speed and better transparency.
