The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka has extended the deadline for applications for accreditation as an SEC Accredited Shariah Scholar under its framework for independent Shariah oversight of Islamic Capital Market products. Accredited Shariah Scholars are recognised under the SEC Act, No. 19 of 2021 as “Supplementary Service Providers” authorised to certify the Shariah compliance of products before publication or listing in Sri Lanka’s capital market. The SEC noted it completed an evaluation in 2024, including in-person interviews, and selected six professionals who met the criteria in its existing guidelines. To expand the list and attract a broader pool of local and international scholars, it has issued amended guidelines and invited applications from candidates meeting the updated qualification, experience and eligibility requirements, with applications to include a current CV and a signed affidavit in the specified form. Applications must be submitted by 20 April 2026, and short-listed applicants will be contacted for a preliminary interview.
