Thailand's Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) joined the Government House ceremony to hand over compensation to the heirs of 18 people who died when a construction crane collapsed onto a train in Sikhio District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The OIC framed its role as accelerating relief for affected families and supervising the accurate payment of insurance benefits. The OIC said payments should be transparent and fair, with eligibility determined through document checks and legal identity verification for heirs. Where evidence is incomplete, the insurance company will deposit the funds with the court pending identification of the lawful heirs. Compensation referenced in the release includes an initial THB 1,000,000 per person indemnity paid under Contractor All Risks cover by Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited, Bangkok Insurance Public Company Limited and Indra Insurance Public Company Limited, plus subsidies of THB 340,000 from the State Railway of Thailand and THB 150,000 from the contractor, described as a total initial remedy of THB 1,490,000, with the release also stating an initial subsidy of THB 1,510,000 per family.
