The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission said its Secretary-General had made an urgent site visit after a train collided with a public bus near the Makkasan railway line in Bangkok, and immediately coordinated with relevant insurers to verify coverage and speed payment of claims, medical expenses and other policy benefits to injured victims and the heirs of those killed. The crash caused the bus to strike an expressway pillar and catch fire, leaving 8 people dead and 30 injured. Preliminary checks found that the bus carried compulsory motor insurance with Dhipaya Insurance and voluntary insurance with Muang Thai Insurance. The OIC has instructed the insurers to expedite compensation in line with policy terms and is also checking whether victims held other insurance, including life or personal accident cover, so that all available benefits can be identified. It said it will continue working with the State Railway of Thailand, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, hospitals and insurers to gather casualty information and facilitate claims.
