The Luxembourg Ministry of Finance published a readout of Finance Minister Gilles Roth’s participation in the Eurogroup and Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Ecofin) meetings held in Luxembourg on 19–20 June 2025, summarising discussions on euro area fiscal developments, competitiveness and productivity, and the state of play on the digital euro and Bulgaria’s accession process to the euro area. Eurogroup ministers discussed budgetary developments and competitiveness based on a presentation by the International Monetary Fund, reviewed progress on the digital euro, and took stock of Bulgaria’s euro area accession process in light of recent assessments from the European Commission and the European Central Bank. At Ecofin, ministers addressed customs tax reform, held a first exchange of views on the European Semester “spring package” presented by the European Commission on 4 June 2025, and discussed recent energy developments in Europe and how to finance growing defence needs; Roth reiterated Luxembourg’s support for the digital euro and financial innovation while noting that key legal questions remain to be resolved. On the margins, he joined the annual meetings of the Board of Governors of the European Stability Mechanism and the European Investment Bank, and met counterparts from Estonia and Slovenia and Denmark’s Minister for Economic Affairs.
