Latvia's Ministry of Finance announced that Finance Minister Arvils Ašeradens, accompanied by representatives from the Ministry, the Bank of Latvia and the Financial Intelligence Service, will attend the World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings in Washington, United States, from 14 to 18 April. The programme includes Nordic and Baltic constituency meetings in both WBG and IMF formats and a series of bilateral engagements with WBG leadership. Ašeradens will represent the Nordic and Baltic countries in the WBG Development Committee, where governors will discuss a report on World Bank support for reforms in developing countries aimed at job creation. The IMF’s International Monetary and Financial Committee meeting will cover IMF governance and policy priorities for safeguarding macroeconomic and financial stability and promoting growth amid heightened uncertainty and global shocks. The agenda also includes meetings with WBG President Ajay Banga and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the institutions’ role in supporting countries through global crises, alongside bilateral talks with senior WBG and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) officials on global economic trends, geopolitical risks, the use of artificial intelligence solutions and opportunities for Latvian companies in high-risk markets, particularly Ukraine and Moldova. The visit also features a roundtable discussion on support for Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction, a meeting of Baltic finance ministers with United States business organisations, and discussions with international financial institutions and research centres, concluding with an International Development Association deputies meeting.
