The Bank of Cape Verde announced an international conference, as part of its 50th anniversary programme, on “Artificial Intelligence in support of promoting efficiency and innovation in the financial system”. The event is scheduled for 3 October 2025 (08:30–13:00) at the University of Cape Verde Convention Centre. The conference will bring together senior representatives from domestic and foreign institutions, including governors and presidents of central banks and monetary authorities from Portuguese-speaking countries, alongside international organisations and partners, financial institutions, national authorities and academia. The programme is structured around academic keynotes and a practitioner panel, reflecting growing use of AI by financial institutions for data and information processing, internal operations and regulatory compliance, as well as the use of AI combined with blockchain to strengthen fraud monitoring and optimise risk management; panel themes span public sector readiness and data integration, supervisory and regulatory use of AI (including establishing data science and AI units), and private-sector deployment to improve risk management and customer service. The release indicates the opening will be presided over by Bank of Cape Verde Governor Óscar Santos and Cabo Verde Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, while the published programme includes an opening address from Vice Prime Minister and Finance Minister Olavo Correia and closing remarks from Banco de Portugal Governor Mário Centeno.
