The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan has issued a warning about fraud schemes conducted in the name of Kazpost, where scammers attempt to obtain SMS verification codes and then use them to access apps or services to steal personal data or take out online loans in a victim’s name. The scheme described involves an SMS claiming there is a letter or parcel delivery, followed by a WhatsApp call purportedly from Kazpost requesting the recipient to disclose the SMS code under the pretext of confirming delivery or уточifying an address. The agency advises citizens never to share SMS confirmation codes, not to follow links from unknown messages, and not to disclose personal data, bank card numbers, or CVV codes by phone, while treating calls from unfamiliar numbers via messaging apps with particular caution. It also recommends verifying information through official channels such as a website or mobile application and contacting law enforcement immediately if fraud indicators are identified. To reduce the risk of fraudulent credit being arranged, the agency recommends activating a voluntary refusal to take out bank loans and microcredits via the eGov.kz portal or the eGov mobile app, noting that the refusal can be removed at any time through the same official resources.
