The Bank for International Settlements published the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision’s latest implementation update, showing that three quarters of its 27 member jurisdictions had issued regulations covering the full set of Basel III standards as of Sept. 30, 2026. Almost all member jurisdictions have publicly announced that banks must apply the framework by April 2027 or earlier. The revised credit risk and operational risk standards and the output floor are already effective in around 85% of member jurisdictions. The update covers the final Basel III elements published in 2017 and the finalized minimum capital requirements for market risk issued in 2019, which had an agreed implementation date of Jan. 1, 2023. Following the Governors and Heads of Supervision’s March 2026 reaffirmation of full and consistent implementation, the Basel Committee will continue monitoring and assessing jurisdictions’ adoption of the framework.
