The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision published an update from its 24–25 February 2026 virtual meeting, covering its discussion of vulnerabilities in government bond-backed repo markets, the expedited targeted review of its prudential standard for banks’ cryptoasset exposures, and near-term publications to support implementation of Basel standards. It also announced the timing and host arrangements for the next International Conference of Banking Supervisors. On repo markets, the Committee built on a recent Financial Stability Board report and linked the identified vulnerabilities to its recently finalised counterparty credit risk management guidelines, which set expectations for banks’ securities financing transactions and collateral management. It agreed to monitor progress on implementation of those guidelines. On cryptoassets, it noted progress on the targeted review and indicated that an update will be provided later this year. Separately, it approved a technical amendment to the standardised approach to operational risk and a response to a frequently asked question on the market risk framework, both due to be published in March. The Committee confirmed that the next International Conference of Banking Supervisors will be hosted by Bank Indonesia and the Indonesian Financial Services Authority in Indonesia on 30 September–1 October 2026, with additional information to follow. It also noted that Secretary General Neil Esho’s term will conclude at the end of March 2026.
