The Financial Superintendence of Colombia published remarks from Superintendent César Ferrari at Asobancaria’s “Popular Economy Awards”, where he stressed that credit for the popular economy is fundamental for the country and pointed to access to finance as a key challenge for small entrepreneurs. Ferrari noted that small businesses make up 98% of Colombia’s business fabric, but face difficulties including limited access to credit, and he praised Asobancaria’s initiative and banks’ efforts to focus more on this segment. He also referenced the national government’s policy of making the popular economy more visible and expressed the hope that this focus continues beyond a single administration. The awards recognised initiatives in three categories: small merchants organised in associative schemes, rural women, and projects focused on new housing or home improvement.
