The New Brunswick Financial and Consumer Services Commission issued an insurance notice setting out the education programs approved by the Superintendent of Insurance for Travel Insurance Agent licences and clarifying when a separate travel insurance licence is required. Individuals who already hold a Life or Accident and Sickness Insurance Agent licence may sell travel insurance without completing an additional travel insurance education program or obtaining a separate Travel Insurance Agent licence, but must indicate on their application or renewal that they also plan to sell travel insurance. Applicants who do not hold a Life or Accident and Sickness Insurance Agent licence must obtain a Travel Insurance Agent licence and complete an approved education program, with the Superintendent approving either the Life Licence Qualifying Program components (Accident and Sickness Insurance and Ethics and Professional Practice (Common Law)) or TRIP, the Travel Health Insurance Association’s Travel Insurance Program. Effective February 1, 2026, Travel Insurance Agent licence applicants must upload proof of successful completion of one of the approved courses, and must have completed the approved course exam within 12 months before applying unless they held a corresponding or equivalent licence in the previous 24 months.
