The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP), represented by Director Júlia Normande Lins, participated in a CNseg webinar on advances in the use of “social name” in the insurance sector and reviewed SUSEP’s requirement for insurers to add a social name field to contractual documents. Lins reported that, one year after SUSEP’s February 2024 official letter setting a compliance deadline, all insurers are now aligned with the requirement. According to SUSEP’s presentation, the letter gave insurers 120 days to implement the social name field, with around 90% of insurers adjusting within that timeframe. The webinar, held to mark Brazil’s National Trans Visibility Day, focused on promoting respect and inclusion of transgender people through the inclusion of the social name field in insurance documentation, with Lins arguing that legal protection of the social name helps reduce discriminatory practices and supports equal treatment.
