Tanzania's Ministry of Finance published an update on a financial literacy outreach delivered in Ukerewe District, Mwanza, by a team of ministry and affiliated institution experts. Local government officials framed the initiative as part of continued cooperation with financial service providers to improve access to financial services, particularly in areas not served by banks. The Ukerewe District Commissioner highlighted the role of financial service providers in enabling easier financial transactions and supporting household economic activity through credit, savings and digital payments, while calling on providers to comply with applicable laws, regulations and procedures to safeguard the financial system, protect consumers and build trust. Ministry of Finance officials distributed educational materials on savings, borrowing and investment, and stressed that lending institutions should return collateral to borrowers immediately after full loan repayment, as the district council noted the training was timely amid local disputes linked to harmful lending practices.
