The Montenegro Capital Market Authority reported that its president, Željko Drinčić, met in London with Ruairi O’Connell of the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to discuss strengthening regulatory cooperation between Montenegro and the United Kingdom and reinforcing links with European Union capital markets. The discussions covered current regulatory challenges including registration of virtual asset service providers (VASPs), application of anti-money laundering (AML) rules, and the UK’s new cryptoasset regulatory framework. The exchange also addressed approaches to regulating new technologies amid the financial sector’s digital transformation, with a focus on balancing innovation and investor protection and supporting capital market development. The update also flagged potential FCA participation at the Authority’s international “Montenegro Financial Markets” conference in September and noted the FCA’s readiness to include the Montenegrin authority in upcoming activities under the International Regulatory Practice Exchange (IRPE) programme.
