The Central Bank of Montenegro has opened a competition for its “2025 Central Bank of Montenegro Green Award” for the best paper examining how climate change affects the financial system. The award is positioned as an initiative to encourage research and raise awareness of climate-related challenges for financial stability. The prize, presented to mark Ecological State of Montenegro Day on 20 September, consists of a plaque and EUR 3,000. Eligible participants are Montenegrin citizens with at least a level VI university degree (180 ECTS) obtained in Montenegro or abroad. Papers are expected to demonstrate innovation and a theoretical and empirical contribution to best practices for central banks, financial regulators and supervisors, international organisations, and financial institutions in addressing climate change risks and their implications for financial system stability; submissions must be unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere. The submission deadline is 15 August 2025. The announcement also references the Financial Stability Council’s Financial Sector Roadmap towards Sustainable Finance, intended to align Montenegro’s financial system with European and global sustainable development standards and ESG principles.
