The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission held a two-day seminar for 134 mediators, executives and staff to strengthen insurance dispute mediation and use case findings to prevent consumer harm earlier. Secretary-General Chuchat Pramoolpol said the commission’s consumer protection approach would move from resolving problems after they arise toward reducing complaints and disputes at source, extending recent efforts to improve expertise and consistency across insurance dispute resolution. Supervision will focus on requiring insurers to improve service standards, complaint management and claims decisions so they are transparent, reviewable and fair. Insurers are also expected to meet service level agreements and strengthen their complaint units so disputed claims are reassessed against policy terms, applicable rules and fair practices before escalating. Training covered online mediation and practical case reviews, while lessons from disputes will inform supervisory rules, guidance and preventive consumer protection measures.
