The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission held a seminar in Chiang Mai to identify operational problems in resolving insurance disputes through arbitration and to support more consistent handling of cases across its central and regional offices. The review focused on practical issues including disputes filed after the limitation period and approaches to assessing compensation, with the aim of aligning consideration and awards in insurance arbitration cases. The Chiang Mai regional office covers 18 provinces and continues to receive arbitration filings on a regular basis. The Office said recurring questions and obstacles in the region still require discussion with the central office despite a similar seminar in 2025. During the visit, senior officials also met Viriyah Insurance and Muang Thai Life Assurance to reinforce the Office's policy on reducing complaints, asking insurers to refer every unresolved case to their internal complaint review unit for a further review and to follow their service level agreement timeframes. Issues and recommendations raised at the seminar will be analysed and used to shape the Office's 2026 annual arbitration seminar, which is scheduled for 8 October 2026 in Bangkok.
