Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) have launched phase 2 of their cross-border QR payment linkage, expanding bilateral QR payment interoperability for travellers and merchants. With the expansion, Malaysian travellers can pay Cambodian merchants by scanning KHQR using the native mobile payment applications of participating financial institutions. Cambodian travellers to Malaysia can continue to pay using the Bakong application by scanning Malaysia’s DuitNow QR, which was introduced in phase 1. BNM and NBC expect more than seven million merchants across both countries to gain access to a wider customer base, with payments executed instantly through users’ existing payment apps; delivery involved local partners including Maybank as sponsoring and settlement bank, Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet), and participating financial institutions in both markets.
