The National Bank of Serbia published updated payment system statistics showing that online purchases paid with payment cards and electronic money reached a new record in 2025, alongside continued growth in the number of domestic online stores. A total of 110.6 million online purchases were made in 2025, or an average of more than 303,000 per day, up 34.3% from 82.4 million in 2024 and 5.2 times the 2020 level (21.2 million). By currency, 71.0% of transactions were made in Serbian dinars (RSD), followed by euros (EUR) at 21.5% and US dollars (USD) at 5.5%, with the British pound (GBP) at 0.3%, Swiss franc (CHF) at 0.1% and other currencies at 1.7%. The number of domestic online stores rose to 5,632 at end-2025, up by 906 year on year and 2.8 times the end-2020 level. RSD-denominated purchases increased by 39.1% in number and 46.3% in value to 78.6 million transactions worth RSD 237.4bn; EUR purchases rose to 23.8 million (+44.5%) worth EUR 1,024.1m (+39.3%); USD purchases fell to 6.1 million (-23.3%) while their value increased to USD 244.5m (+12.5%). The National Bank of Serbia noted that the figures, collected from payment service providers, exclude purchases paid on delivery.
