The Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency reported that its Board President, Ante Žigman, took part in an EFRI Economic Forum panel on artificial intelligence and digital transformation in the public sector, where he focused on governance implications of AI-assisted decision-making. He stated that management and supervisory boards remain unequivocally responsible for business decisions even when AI tools generate recommendations. The panel examined how AI may change public institutions’ operations and service delivery, alongside regulatory, security and ethical challenges, including whether decision-making could shift from boards to AI systems and what that would mean for accountability. Žigman argued that boards can use AI to identify competitive advantages but remain responsible regardless of whether AI supports investment choices, analyses global stock exchange offers against predefined criteria, or suggests how to handle insurance claims, and he noted that AI is already used in areas such as car-damage processing and rapid repair-cost quotations.
