Members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) visited wildfire-impacted communities in Altadena and Pasadena, California, to observe damage from fires earlier in 2025 and hear directly from state disaster response teams and firefighters. The visit was positioned as an input to regulator decision-making on insurance and consumer impacts as weather-related catastrophes become more frequent. The community engagement was linked to the NAIC National Climate Resilience Strategy for Insurance, a regulator-led initiative focused on faster and more effective risk reduction and enhanced data gathering. The strategy is intended to support collaboration and exchange of best practices, including home hardening and community mitigation, and to equip regulators with tools to help consumers better withstand and recover from natural disasters.
