The National Bank of Georgia hosted an event for Bankers’ Professional Day, using the occasion to mark the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the Georgian Lari and to recognize outstanding employees from the central bank and the wider banking sector. Honorary certificates and commemorative gifts were presented to National Bank of Georgia staff with more than 30 years of service and to representatives of commercial banks. Governor Natia Turnava highlighted the role of the banking sector’s workforce in supporting economic resilience and stated that nearly 50,000 professionals contribute to the broader mission of strengthening the economy. She reaffirmed the National Bank of Georgia’s focus on consistent and credible monetary policy, price stabilization, and raising standards across the banking industry to support financial stability, and pointed to 2025 activity in international cooperation and domestic financial innovation, including the first Tbilisi Finance Summit held within the Silk Road Forum with more than 1,000 delegates from over 50 countries. Bankers’ Professional Day has been celebrated in Georgia since 2001 and is observed on the birthday of Ilia Chavchavadze, founder and first head of the Noble Land Bank established 125 years ago; the initiative originated from the National Bank of Georgia and the Bankers’ Association.
