Swift is rolling out a cross-border retail payments framework that will give consumers and small and medium-sized enterprises upfront certainty on costs, full-value delivery, end-to-end traceability and faster settlement, including instant settlement where possible. More than 25 banks will begin processing payments under the framework by the end of June across routes to Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Germany, India, Pakistan, Spain, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States. The framework targets remaining friction at the customer-facing and final domestic stages of international payments, after 75% of payments over Swift already reach destination banks within 10 minutes. More than 50 banks support the initiative, although adoption timelines vary, and additional payment routes are expected to become active by the end of 2026. The scheme forms part of Swift’s broader work toward the G20 cross-border payments targets, alongside a planned blockchain-based shared ledger focused initially on 24/7 real-time transfers of regulated tokenized value.
