Swift is rolling out a cross-border retail payments framework that will give consumers and small and midsize enterprises certainty over cost, speed and delivery. More than 25 banks will go live by the end of June across payment routes to Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Germany, India, Pakistan, Spain, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States, offering full-value delivery, end-to-end tracking and instant settlement where possible. Developed with early adopter banks following Swift’s September 2025 announcement, the framework targets remaining friction at the customer-facing and final domestic stages of payments. While 75% of payments over Swift reach the destination bank within 10 minutes, the common rules are intended to improve the full transaction experience and support the Group of 20 targets for consumer payments. More than 50 banks support the framework, although their adoption schedules vary. Additional payment routes are expected to become active by the end of 2026. In parallel, Swift is adding a blockchain-based shared ledger to its infrastructure, initially to support real-time cross-border payments around the clock and the movement of regulated tokenized value.
