The Bank of Jamaica reminded the public that cotton banknotes will no longer be legal tender from 1 July 2025 and advised businesses to continue accepting cotton banknotes for transactions up to and including 30 June 2025. To support the transition to polymer notes, the central bank is exchanging old cotton banknotes for new polymer banknotes and will continue to do so indefinitely after 1 July 2025. Deposit-taking institutions have also committed to accept cotton banknotes from customers over the counter and, in some cases, via automated teller machines at least until the end of July 2025, allowing businesses and individuals to deposit cotton notes to their bank accounts or exchange them through their institutions.
