The Central Bank of Nigeria has issued a renewed public advisory warning that individuals and groups are falsely claiming to represent the Bank and are circulating fictitious offers of contracts, loans, grants and intervention funds allegedly issued or endorsed by the CBN. The Bank reiterated that it has not authorised or appointed any agent or intermediary to offer such benefits to the public. The warning follows a prior public advisory issued on 18 November 2024, with the CBN noting the schemes have persisted and continue to target members of the public with deceptive narratives. The CBN stressed that it does not award contracts or disburse funds through unsolicited emails, phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp or social media, and it does not request fee payments in exchange for contracts, grants or financial interventions. Members of the public are advised not to engage with such approaches and to report incidents to relevant law enforcement agencies or the nearest CBN branch, while the Bank continues to work with security agencies to investigate and address fraudulent activity.
