The Spanish Securities Commission (CNMV) and Spain’s General Council of Notaries have renewed their cooperation agreement that enables the CNMV to access notarial databases on beneficial ownership and persons with public responsibility. The information is intended to support investigations into suspected market abuse and money laundering, as well as other supervisory actions requiring these data. The renewed arrangement gives the CNMV access to the Notariat’s Beneficial Ownership Database and the Public Responsibility Persons Database, both managed by the Notariat’s Centralised Anti-Money Laundering Prevention Body (OCP). The beneficial ownership database contains verified beneficial owner identification for more than 2.7 million limited liability companies, more than 112,500 public limited companies and more than 273,500 non-commercial legal persons. The public responsibility database identifies more than 27,000 persons with public responsibility, more than 44,300 related persons and more than 5,200 companies held by persons with public responsibility. A joint monitoring committee will oversee the agreement and address any issues arising, building on cooperation that began with an initial agreement signed in 2011.
