The Reserve Bank of New Zealand hosted and chaired the 40th meeting of the South Pacific Central Bank Governors in Auckland on 22–24 October 2025, bringing together governors and senior representatives from nine central banks across the region. The agenda included an IMF briefing on regional challenges and opportunities, with participants noting a generally positive economic outlook alongside downside risks linked to the uncertain impact of the US tariff regime. Updates were shared on payment system development work by the Reserve Bank of Fiji and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, and governors also discussed fiscal and monetary policy interaction during and after the Covid-19 period; additional meetings were held alongside sessions convened by the Pacific Islands Forum and the World Bank, including the Pacific CBR Technical Advisory Group and the Pacific De-risking Group. Central Bank of Timor-Leste offered to host the next meeting in 2026.
