The Dominican Republic Superintendency of Banks held the fourth edition of its annual conference on the protection of financial services users, with this year’s programme centred on market conduct and how it is addressed through risk-based supervision. The opening keynote was delivered by World Bank specialist Sergio de Mesquita, who reviewed benefits, challenges and success stories in financial consumer protection and emphasised joint work between supervised firms and supervisors to mitigate risks with user protection as a priority. Banking Superintendent Julio Enrique Caminero highlighted the Superintendency’s actions across rulemaking, supervision and engagement with both users and supervised entities, while the closing remarks by ProUsuario director Natalia Sánchez focused on fair treatment and avoiding abuse, discrimination or unjustified exclusion. The event also included panels and working sessions on regional market conduct trends and current challenges, with participation from the Central Bank and other domestic regulators and industry bodies, including fintech representatives.
