Greece's Ministry of National Economy and Finance announced that Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis is in Luxembourg to attend the Eurogroup meeting on 9 October and the ECOFIN meeting on 10 October, with discussions expected to focus on investment, competitiveness and citizen participation in European capital markets. Under the ECOFIN agenda, ministers are set to discuss establishing a Savings and Investment Union aimed at channelling savings into investment and broadening participation by citizens and businesses in capital markets, alongside simplifying the EU legislative framework to reduce bureaucracy and business costs. Other items listed include changes to the EU system of own resources, a revision of the Tobacco Excise Directive, the 2025 European Semester, and the economic impact of the war in Ukraine and support via the Ukraine Facility, as well as approval of G20 summit conclusions and EU positions ahead of COP30 with an emphasis on climate action financing. The Eurogroup is due to review member states’ macroeconomic and fiscal trajectories and, in an expanded format, discuss European capital market performance, progress on capital markets integration, and recent developments in stablecoins and other digital financial instruments. On the sidelines, the minister will hold bilateral meetings and participate in the Competitiveness Lab working lunch.
