Thailand Office of Insurance Commission published an update on its on-site assistance following a collision between two pickup trucks in Ang Thong province that resulted in seven deaths and one serious injury. The Office verified the vehicles’ insurance arrangements, began tracking losses through its electronic major-incident reporting platform, and coordinated with insurers and affected families to facilitate access to benefits. Preliminary checks found both vehicles had compulsory motor insurance, while the pickup registered in Bangkok also held a voluntary type 1 motor policy. The Bangkok-registered vehicle’s compulsory policy was with Follcol Insurance and its voluntary type 1 policy was with Viriyah Insurance, while the Sing Buri-registered vehicle’s compulsory policy was with ERGO Insurance (Thailand) and it had no voluntary cover. The Office also set out preliminary entitlements, including initial no-fault payments for drivers (THB 35,000 for funeral expenses and medical expenses up to THB 30,000) and death benefits for passengers under compulsory cover (THB 500,000 per person), with additional benefits potentially available under the type 1 policy’s third-party and personal accident cover. For the injured person receiving hospital treatment, the Ang Thong provincial office coordinated with the insurer for direct settlement of eligible medical costs with the hospital so the injured person does not need to pay in advance. With the case still under police investigation, the Office is coordinating with provincial offices in Sing Buri and Samut Prakan to support relatives and, with the Thai Life Assurance Association and Thai General Insurance Association, to check whether victims held additional insurance policies beyond the motor policies identified.
