The National Bank of Moldova published an update on Governor Anca Dragu’s meetings in Brussels with members of the European Parliament aimed at strengthening financial cooperation between Moldova and the European Union, with a focus on Moldova’s financial integration into the EU. Discussions covered the central bank’s role in advancing structural reforms referenced in Moldova’s Growth Plan and the planned accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). The National Bank of Moldova presented SEPA membership as a step to modernise the payments infrastructure and support closer economic integration with the EU, including lower-cost, faster and more secure euro payments for citizens, simplified cross-border payments and reduced bureaucracy for businesses, and cheaper international transfers for the diaspora. Meetings with MEPs including Siegfried Mureșan, Eugen Tomac and Dan Barna also addressed progress and challenges in the European integration process, access to EU markets, support for financial reforms, transparency, and the need for further reforms to align with EU standards, alongside priorities such as financial stability and banking infrastructure modernisation.
