The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission, together with the insurance industry, has launched a full rollout of its “Warm-hearted Restaurant with Insurance Protection” initiative in Chiang Mai, aimed at raising restaurant safety standards and expanding consumer protection through insurance. The programme encourages restaurant operators to take out third-party liability insurance to cover unexpected incidents for which the restaurant is responsible, and stresses selecting appropriate cover, including legal liability to third parties that extends to food poisoning. Participating restaurants can receive an “Insured Restaurant and Café Plus” badge, and the Commission positioned the initiative as a practical application of “embedded insurance” by integrating insurance into everyday services. Chiang Mai was highlighted as a major testbed, with more than 13,200 restaurant operators. The Commission plans to expand the initiative nationwide through further outreach and education on business standards and risk management, with follow-on activities signposted for Phuket in March 2026 and Khon Kaen in June 2026.
