The Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), working with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), launched a regional workshop in Rabat on criminal asset tracing, freezing, and confiscation. The programme is framed around strengthening capacity to apply confiscation procedures, including non-conviction-based confiscation, in line with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards. Hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco through the National Financial Intelligence Authority, the 16–18 June 2025 workshop convenes participants from financial intelligence units, judicial and law enforcement authorities, supervisors, customs, and cross-border asset tracing agencies across MENAFATF member countries. International experts include representatives from the US Treasury and the MENA-ARIN regional network, with sessions focusing on interagency cooperation, the use of modern investigative tools such as artificial intelligence and big data analytics, and practical exercises, interactive discussions, and country presentations on national asset recovery experiences and challenges.
