The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) held its 2025 annual arbitration seminar, framing arbitration as a core alternative dispute resolution mechanism for insurance disputes that can protect policyholders’ rights without court proceedings. The OIC positioned the event as part of efforts to improve the effectiveness, fairness and public trust in insurance arbitration, reflecting the complexity of modern insurance contracts. The seminar focused on building the capability of arbitrators and relevant staff on updated insurance law and on disseminating information about key new policy terms, including health insurance policies with copayment conditions promoted under the New Health Standard to help manage rising medical costs. It also covered policy coverage for earthquake-related losses, in light of an 8.2 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar earlier in the year that caused property damage in multiple parts of Thailand including Bangkok, and included an academic panel on approaches to determining indemnity amounts in claims assessment.
