The Financial System Supervisory Authority of Bolivia (ASFI) issued an alert after identifying “asfi-renta.com”, a fraudulent website that misuses the supervisor’s name and institutional image to deceive the public and illegally solicit funds, promoted through paid advertising on social media. ASFI said the platform has no legal basis to provide financial intermediation or investment services in Bolivia and holds neither an operating licence nor registration with the supervisor. The site reportedly imitates official logos and technical terminology and uses videos and AI-enabled voice cloning to create a false appearance of legitimacy, while operating pyramid-style scams that promise guaranteed returns with an imminent risk of total loss. The alert notes that unauthorised financial intermediation is an offence under Financial Services Law No. 393 and the Criminal Code, with penalties of up to 10 years’ imprisonment. ASFI urged the public not to provide personal data or passwords and not to make bank transfers to the site’s administrators or similar platforms, and to be wary of promises of rapid gains. It also emphasised that ASFI’s digital channels operate only under government (.gob.bo) domains and do not promote direct investment schemes or manage private capital, and recommended verifying the legitimacy of financial entities via its official website.
