The European Central Bank hosted an International Women’s Day event focused on the gender gap in financial literacy and launched the EuroSteps Walking Challenge, a Eurosystem-wide initiative designed to deliver accessible financial education to women across euro area countries. EuroSteps combines step counting with bite-sized lessons delivered via mobile notifications. Registration is open, with the step-counting challenge running from 1 April for four weeks; participants can join at any time and will receive two to three notifications per week in their own language containing financial education content and links to existing national programmes and trusted resources, with a chance to win a prize. The event also highlighted the Eurosystem’s central bank financial literacy network, which is working on a comprehensive, harmonised financial literacy dataset for Europe and a shared repository of initiatives and resources, alongside renewed commitments to targeted actions for women and impact measurement.
