Lithuania's Ministry of Finance announced that Vice-Minister of Finance Kristupas Vaitiekunas will participate in the Eurogroup and EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meetings in Copenhagen on 19–20 September, with discussions centred on how geopolitical challenges are affecting the European economy and what measures could strengthen Europe’s resilience. The informal Eurogroup meeting is set to review recent economic trends, consider the Eurogroup work programme through mid-2026, and take stock of progress on the digital euro project. ECOFIN discussions are expected to cover financial regulatory simplification and national structural reforms aimed at improving resilience and productivity, alongside short- and medium-term actions to strengthen Europe’s resilience and strategic autonomy with partners. The ministry highlighted a focus on addressing strategic vulnerabilities and dependencies in areas including defence, technology and artificial intelligence, critical raw materials and energy, and noted that Bruegel will present alternative geopolitical scenarios for the coming decade to frame ministers’ exchanges on potential domestic and international policy responses.
