The Central Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group’s (GABAC) Permanent Secretariat published a readout of events marking the body’s 25th anniversary in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, including a reflection workshop on how to reinforce the effectiveness of GABAC’s anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and counter-proliferation financing (AML/CFT/CPF) arrangements while meeting international standards. The anniversary week followed GABAC Technical Commission meetings held from 22 to 26 September 2025 and a statutory plenary on 27 September 2025 at the Equatorial Guinea National Directorate of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). The workshop brought together experts, including former GABAC permanent secretaries and former financial intelligence unit heads, alongside protocol addresses from local authorities and representatives of the Financial Action Task Force and the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa. Discussions concluded with agreed priorities to strengthen member engagement and support for ORTG on AML/CFT/CPF, improve the operational effectiveness of AML/CFT/CPF regulation across member states, enhance the operational framework for the next round of GABAC mutual evaluations, and define challenges and perspectives linked to GABAC’s 2025–2027 Strategic Action Plan and an effectiveness improvement plan. Participants also agreed to develop and adopt a recommendations matrix setting out actions to be taken and the responsibilities for delivery.
