The Bank of Lithuania, together with the central banks of Estonia and Latvia, is hosting the “Payments & Policy in a Changing Environment” conference in Tallinn, bringing policymakers and financial market supervisors together to discuss the future and security of payments in Europe with a focus on the digital euro and preparations by governments and payment service providers. The agenda spans the policy case for a central bank digital currency, legal and technological progress, possible integration with local and pan-European payment systems, and expected benefits and challenges for citizens and businesses, with emphasis on security and resilience in the European and Baltic payment sectors. Bank of Lithuania Board member Marius Skuodis is scheduled to discuss the digital euro’s role in strengthening payment-system resilience amid geopolitical and technological uncertainty, while appointed Board member Evaldas Ruzgys will cover threats to payment services and financial stability, Baltic central bank actions to mitigate them, and potential crisis-management features including offline access and high privacy and security standards. Opening remarks are planned from European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis and European Central Bank Executive Board member Piero Cipollone, alongside a panel of EU and national policymakers and industry representatives.
